Minutes - May 8, 2007 - Knoxville TN
Attendance: There were 23 present: Allison Mann, Chad O’Shea, Ed Kosak, Mary
Ann Finch, Phil and Lara Smedsted, Doug and Penny Werth, Joel and
Maryanne Blackford, Felisha Searcy, Denise Yeargin, Russell Heiland,
James and Leah King, Lora Beth Gilbreath, Richard and Suzie Burdick,
Charlie Rule, Teny Fisher, Herb Pierson, Sheryl Finch, and Terrence
Padgett
The meeting was called to order at 10:55 am. Richard led us in song
(marvelously).
Minutes
from the last meeting in February were read silently. Ed Kosak made
a motion to approve. The minutes were approved with no corrections.
Allison gave the financial report. There was a total of $843.60 to tithe.
50% went to the SE Region. 10% went to the Association, Silent
Unity, and Unity Headquarters, each. 20% went to the “Complaint
Free” movement at Will Bowen’s church in Kansas City. There was
a request to see the grants and scholarships given by UMMAS on
future financial reports. Russell Heiland made a motion to approve
the financial report and it was passed.
July Training: There was discussion around the leadership training
at Atlanta Unity, in Norcross, GA. (John Strickland) Rene’ Pare’
is facilitating the training on Appreciative Inquiry. Russell noted that Diane Whitney (www.positivechange.org),
the originator of Appreciative Inquiry, is doing a training at Unity
Christ Church in Wilmington, NC. on January 8-9, 2008.
Kanuga Retreat: The flyer was looked at for suggested changes and corrections. There
was discussion around the retreat being held during the week of World
Day of Prayer. Some felt it excluded them from attending because of
commitments at their church. Last year the retreat was held the week
before Labor Day and attendance was low. There was talk about moving
the retreat one week back to possibly enjoy the fall colors. Kanuga Retreat 2008 is being held the week of Sept. 8-12. Bishop John Shelby Spong
will be the keynote speaker.
SE Regional Conference: Everything appears to be in place for
the conference Oct 29-Nov. 1. Ed shared that there was discussion on
the SE Board of changing the way the conference is planned and
implemented. There is thought of recruiting a Project
Manager/Planner as a paid position.
Discussion was made over the action steps being taken for registration,
transportation, hospitality, and prayer. Felicia, in charge of
Chaplains for the SE Region, made a request for people to sign up,
either to be a chaplain, or having a chaplain assigned to them.
Marilyn Muhlbach, Beth Head, and Bill Worth are doing a training for the SE
Region on the Code of Ethics, boundaries, and sexual misconduct at 4
different locations: Nashville, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando, starting
the 1st quarter of 2008.
With a break in between for lunch, the meeting was adjourned at 2:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Rev. Terrence Padgett Secretary
